In Rhode Island the primary hunting seasons typically run from the second Saturday in September to the last day of February and from the third Saturday in April to the last day in May, however this can vary from year to year and depends on what game is being hunted. During hunting season you should wear at least 200 square inches (a hat OR a vest) of blaze orange. During shotgun deer season, which is typically in December, you should wear at least 500 square inches of blaze orange (a hat AND a vest). For more information see the RI DEM website.
A network of 3 moderate trails intersect with the North/South Trail. The first thing you will notice is the quiet. The farm is on the migratory path for birds, so ideal for birdwatchers. An unlimited variety of fungi can be found by hikers with a sharp eye. A broad colony of Bloodroot is a treat if you catch it during its brief flowering time.
Our Red Devon, pasture-raised cows are eager to be admired at several openings on the Red Trail (Margery's Trail). We do ask that visitors be respectful of the farm manager's home privacy at the trailhead of the Red Trail beside the black barn.
Several small sections along the Red Trail can be muddy in spring and after a rain.
Somewhere out there a surprise RI Walks Challenge Creature is waiting to share a selfie with you!
Please be aware the the Trifield and South Meadow Trails may be closed periodical during the haying season.
Maps are available at the kiosks at North Road and Balcom Road as well as on our website, Facebook page, and Instagram.
