In Rhode Island the primary hunting seasons typically run from the second Saturday in September to the last day of February and from the third Saturday in April to the last day in May, however this can vary from year to year and depends on what game is being hunted. During hunting season you should wear at least 200 square inches (a hat OR a vest) of blaze orange. During shotgun deer season, which is typically in December, you should wear at least 500 square inches of blaze orange (a hat AND a vest). For more information see the RI DEM website.
The Biscuit City Preserve has sections of trail for walkers of all ages and abilities, including those in wheelchairs and strollers. From the trailhead at Springdale Road, a 6-foot crushed stone dust trail and two wooden bridges lead walkers 475 feet to a turnaround at the edge of Biscuit City Mill Pond. All visitors can access the serenity and beauty at the pond's edge among towering oak, hickory, and ash trees. Young ones will enjoy the quick transformation from suburban South Kingstown to a magical wooded land of waterfalls, native plants, fungi, and singing birds.
Beyond the accessible portion of the trail, walkers will encounter more rugged but still manageable trail leading past old cellars, a mill foundation, a water wheel pit, and a millers house.
