In Rhode Island the primary hunting seasons typically run from the second Saturday in September to the last day of February and from the third Saturday in April to the last day in May, however this can vary from year to year and depends on what game is being hunted. During hunting season you should wear at least 200 square inches (a hat OR a vest) of blaze orange. During shotgun deer season, which is typically in December, you should wear at least 500 square inches of blaze orange (a hat AND a vest). For more information see the RI DEM website.

This area is a grouping of several properties acquired over the years by the Cumberland Land Trust. On Nate Whipple Highway is the 23-acre Atlantic White Cedar Swamp Preserve. In 2018 the Cumberland Land Trust built bog bridges that allowed easier access to that property which had become flooded due to beaver dams. On Pound Road is the 38-acre Gold Star Preserve that was donated to the land trust by the owner who was subdividing adjacent property to the west for house lots. Initially only one trail existing that ran between the two roads. To the east is the 72-acre Burlingame Preserve that was long thought to be not feasible for trails due to wetlands. However, after exploration a dry trail route was found to connect Burlingame to the other preserves and in 2018 over two miles of trails were created.

All the trails are marked, gently rolling, and easy to walk upon with very few rocky areas. The Burlingame Preserve has miles of stone walls that separated numerous wood lots and pastures in the 1800's. Some of those pastures are still clearly visible with little undergrowth.

To the east of the Burlingame preserve is the privately owned Cumberland Beagle Club. Gun shots may be heard while club members are using their target or skeet range. The ranges faces away from the land trust property.

Dogs: Yes, must be leashed and waste removed by owner

More Miles than only 3 at Atlantic Cedar Swamp.

Submitted by: Laura Leone; January 21, 2022; 7:49 am

Love this place. Some of the rolling hills are pretty steep.
I've been down every trail & cut through & logged on All trails.
It was almost 5 that I logged but somehow my recording stopped about 3/4 of the way through, so probably more.
I'd say 3 miles is the perimeter trail only..not the side trails here.

[Moderator's comment: The distance listed on the trail map, of 3.13 miles for all the trails, is based on logging the trails with a GPS. The White Trail plus the Red Trail should be 2.2 miles, with another ~0.9 miles for the various connecting trails. I'm not sure how to explain the discrepancy between this figure and what you recorded.]

I don't either. I tried to upload my recording from AT but can't.
