In Rhode Island the primary hunting seasons typically run from the second Saturday in September to the last day of February and from the third Saturday in April to the last day in May, however this can vary from year to year and depends on what game is being hunted. During hunting season you should wear at least 200 square inches (a hat OR a vest) of blaze orange. During shotgun deer season, which is typically in December, you should wear at least 500 square inches of blaze orange (a hat AND a vest). For more information see the RI DEM website.

What’s There:

The wide, well-maintained and well marked trail passes through established trees and wetlands. The trail is generally dry but may be muddy near where it crosses Crooked Brook in two places. It crosses and runs along unpaved Westmoreland Road for a bit. The trail also crosses Kinney Avenue but the trailheads are few yards apart -- walk toward and past the street walker-icon sign in either direction. Great for an 'out and back' walk or you can use the new Gansett Loop trail, which connects the Crooked Brook Trail and the Canonchet Farm Trail to create a 5.7 mile loop.
