In Rhode Island the primary hunting seasons typically run from the second Saturday in September to the last day of February and from the third Saturday in April to the last day in May, however this can vary from year to year and depends on what game is being hunted. During hunting season you should wear at least 200 square inches (a hat OR a vest) of blaze orange. During shotgun deer season, which is typically in December, you should wear at least 500 square inches of blaze orange (a hat AND a vest). For more information see the RI DEM website.
The Gansett Loop Trail, created by the Narragansett Land Conservancy Trust, lets hikers experience some of the best Narragansett has to offer. It uses the existing Canonchet Farm and Crooked Brook trails as well as various tree-lined streets, the seawall walk, and the school bike path to create a 5.7 mile loop. Each of those trails can be enjoyed on their own for those looking for a shorter hike. For those wanting to walk the full 5.7-mile Loop Trail, a convenient place to start is Crooked Brook trailhead on South Pier Road. For additional trailheads see the trail map or the descriptions of the Canonchet Farm and Crooked Brook trails.
The Canonchet Farm and Crooked Brook trails are not ADA accessible. The street and bike path portions of the Gansett Loop are generally accessible but do not form a loop and not all the streets on the loop have sidewalks.
Bicycles: Bikes are permitted on the road and bike path parts of the loop but not on the Canonchet Farm and Crooked Brook trails
